Climate Conversations is our peer support group for living in the climate crisis. There’s a lot to get our heads around and the scale and urgency of the crisis can be overwhelming. We aim to find ways to come to terms with what’s happening to our world, support each other and figure out what we can do to cope and make changes.
At the next meeting, we’re going to be exploring how our individual actions relate to the larger social structures in our society – for example our education system, the media, and our economy). In our previous session, we had a conversation about personal responsibility and the climate crisis. Overall, there was a feeling that systems and social structures are responsible for the climate crisis, and need to be changed. In the course of the conversation the following questions came up, which will be the topic for the upcoming meeting:
These questions might sound a bit abstract, but don’t worry. We don’t assume any prior knowledge of the topic and it’s a friendly, welcoming group. We’ll start by defining exactly what we mean by ‘social structure’. And then we’ll think through the questions together.
And, as usual, we’ll have plenty of tea and biscuits on hand!
