Ideas for self-care practises

Self-care is important but easily forgotten. We’ve made a list of our self-care practices.

All these ideas came from a brainstorming session in our peer-support group. They’re not necessarily recommendations, but they may help you come up with a list of your own.

Things I can be absorbed in

  1. Learning something new
  2. Going to a gig.
  3. Singing.
  4. Cooking.
  5. Gardening.
  6. Music.
  7. Caring for someone else.
  8. I go to the allotment.
  9. Having a bath.
  10. Reading a book.

Emergency self-care

  1. Take my tablets.
  2. Tidying up relaxes me.
  3. Writing an action plan.
  4. Making lists and setting reminders – it reduces anxiety and I can stop worrying about forgetting.
  5. Having a bath.
  6. I go to bed in the day.
  7. I lie down for 20 minutes.
  8. Doing puzzles.

Things that feel energising

  1. I ride my bike.
  2. I go for a walk.
  3. Exercising.
  4. Being with friends.
  5. Cycling.
  6. Laughing.
  7. Constructive rest.
  8. Spend time in green spaces.
  9. Singing.

Things I find relaxing

  1. Having a massage.
  2. Yoga.
  3. A bath.
  4. Being teetotal.
  5. Having a drink with friends.
  6. Red wine.
  7. Reading in bed.

Looking after ourselves

  1. Taking my tablets.
  2. Cleaning my teeth.
  3. I have a shower.
  4. Exercise.
  5. Yoga.
  6. Cook.
  7. Cook.
  8. Music.
  9. Having a bath.

Things I look forward to

  1. Having a massage
  2. I go to the allotment.
  3. Coming to “climate conversations”
  4. Holidays.
  5. Gigs, theatre, cinema.
  6. Plans with friends.
